In December, Governor Kay Ivey signed a proclamation setting the special election date of June 24 to fill the Alabama District Five Senate seat. Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Reed previously held the position before leaving the office to serve as Ivey’s Senior Advisor to Workforce Transformation.
Today, Northwest Alabama residents will go to the polls to elect a replacement for Reed. The two candidates available for voters are Rep. Matt Woods (R-Jasper), the Republican on the ballot, and Ryan Cagle, the Democratic nominee.
