In response to the recent unrest in California involving anti-ICE protests, U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL)  joined with U.S. Senators Thom Tillis (R-NC), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Ted Budd (R-NC), and Bill Cassidy (R-LA) in introducing the Safe and Open Streets Act. The legislation, according to the lawmakers, would make it a federal crime to intentionally obstruct, delay, or impede commerce by blocking a public road or highway.
