Receiving unwanted calls, texts, or spam on your computer can be frustrating and disruptive, especially from scammers. With the help of technology, scammers can make countless calls in a day. In honor of Senior Americans, we want to provide tips on blocking these calls and spam on your computer for yourself and your loved ones. To begin, take a look at this informative video.
According to The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), they have observed several prevalent unwanted phone calls lately, such as bogus calls from fake Social Security Administration, Medicare, and IRS representatives, fake Amazon or Apple Computer support calls, and fraudulent auto warranty and credit card calls. Despite the type of unwanted calls you receive (common for everyone), it is always best to be proactive. To help you deal with these situations, here are three fundamental rules to follow:
One sure way to block unwanted calls on your cellphone is to put your cellphone on airplane mode. This will completely stop your phone from ringing all day long; just remember when it is time to make a call, you will need to take off airplane mode. For home phone, you can visit ftc.gov/calls for guidance. If you're receiving unwanted calls, please report them at donotcall.gov, as the FTC is actively pursuing companies and scammers behind these calls. If you've been a victim of a scam call, report it to ReportFraud.ftc.gov. Your reports will help the FTC take action against scammers and illegal robocalls, just like in Operation Call It Quits, where the FTC brought 94 actions against illegal robocalls in conjunction with their state and federal partners. They also make the phone numbers you report public daily, which assists phone carriers and other partners working on call-blocking and call-labeling solutions. Sharing these videos and call-blocking news with your friends and family can help protect them from scams and reduce unwanted calls.
If you suspect a Medicare scam, you can report it in a few ways. You can contact the Federal Trade Commission's Complaint Assistant or Medicare directly at 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227). You can also visit the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to report suspicious activities. Additionally, you can add your telephone number to the national Do Not Call list if you're receiving unwanted calls, texts, or spam on your computer. Is there anything else I can assist you with?
