St Croix Memorial Sail Moment of Zen
There’s sadness at the end of every sail. So too at the end of every life. When the two things come together, though, it can be beautiful. Such was the case with a July 2026 memorial sail back in St. Croix, the tail end of which is featured here. This sail celebrated the life of an old childhood friend. We sailed with his family and friends to a spot just offshore Judith’s Fancy. Ashes were scattered to the sea. A wreath, Cruzan Rum, and a few Heinekens were too. Captain Carl blew his conch shell consecrating the moment. There were tears for sure, but mostly there was love, laughs, and smiles....
